who on here is backing hughton to be a success in the PL next year. simple yes or no would be great. i'll start it off.

i'll define success as anything above 13th/and or still being manager at the end of the season.

Define what you'd consider to be a success?

By your standards, then no. He'll most likely fail.

Personally, I'd consider survival to be the target and I'd give him to the end of the season. Unfortunately, the expectations of the majority will probably see him sacked long before January and we'll employ another JFK and be relegated again. Fantastic.

i wouldnt be surprised if ashley backs him with 10m, sacks him one game in, and hires brian laws as he'll work for free.

Aye well that'd be Ashley fucking things up again, rather than Hughton failing.

Step aside and get who in? We finally have a manager who has the respect and support of the whole squad.

17th would be a success.

Dignity? Walking away from a job in the PL would leave him with dignity? Bollocks, he'd be called a bottler.

And who would we replace him with? And what will the players think of that?

Who is better than Hughton and why....aside from the obvious world names who wouldn't come here (Fergie, Jose, Wenger etc.)?

Please don't say you want Keegan again?

Let the past stay where it is and stop digging it up. He has legendary status as it is, slightly tarnished to some (like me) after what happened in 2008. We casn't go digging it up every time "we're in the shit" - which we aren't. We are promoted and in the driving seat to win the league. Things look better now than they have for years.

bottom line is to progress as a club we need a good manager, in lets say a year or 2's time we wanna move up towards top 7 or so. we need to attract big players, we need a manager who can control big players, the ego the arguments etc. someone like shearer or keegan who have been there, and done that.

as much as i liked roeder as a person, hes alot like hughton in this respect. set the scene a bad defeat tempers flare, who will respect hugton then. hughton isnt gonna come in and law down the law as much as keegan or shearer would.

hughton may we have a decent year next year and keep us up, but u 2 have to look beyond next year, hughton isnt going to give us long term anything he isnt strong enough. and we cant afford to chop and change a manager again.

hughton has had all good personalities and a feel good factor obv in an inferior league. but when the bullets start flying in the PL id want shearer or keegan fighting in my corner.

Haha, aye cause he's gonna come here.

Ok, Hughton, fuck off pal, Keegan is going to come back and work under Ashley for another few months. We'll give you a call in December, we might need you again. Rolleyes

Shearer failed just as much as Hughton last season, what's the difference? Other than the fact Hughton was just waiting for somebody to come in and take over, whereas Shearer was actually the boss...

I don't see why Hughton can't take us further. Well, I can. Ashley.

shearer inherited kinnears rubbish. for 8 games
souness inherited bobbys great side for the first 8 games he won them all.
moral of the story.
dont judge a manager on 8 games.

So did Hughton!!

And the first time round, he took on a load of players disillusioned with the fact that KK had gone and the fans were protesting and the club was up for sale.

Exactly.

But it's a shitty league. Which apparently means it doesn't matter.

It did when Keegan was in the division.

I have doubts, but more concerned about the fact Ashley's still here.
