LLAMBIAS OUT NOW!

MD Has To Go!

What has Derek Llambias achieved since he came to us in 2008 as Managing Director at Newcastle United?
The man was central to the resignation of club icon, Kevin Keegan and has been proven in an FA Tribunal to have lied as part of some distorted effort at Public Relations. That resignation precipitated a heart-breaking relegation and the signs are that Llambias is the architect of another implosion at SJP. Llambias’ management style has indirectly cost the Newcastle United business tens of millions of pounds with that relegation? Is Ashley’s loyalty to Llambias so strong he will allow it to threaten another?

What does he bring to the club? Man management? Football knowledge? A detailed book of contacts? Leadership? Strategy? Sales? Public Relations? Networking? Finance? I see none of the above.

Do you trust him? This is what he said after we’d sold Carroll to Liverpool in January:

“We will spend in the summer. Every penny of the £35 million will stay in the club.
We didn’t push Andy Carroll out, far from it - he asked to go. The fact is Mike Ashley didn’t want to sell him, it’s not like he needs the money is it? And remember we turned down bids of £30m and then £35m from Liverpool. That’s serious money for a 22 year-old with only six months’ experience in the Premier League. But finally Mike’s point of view was the player’s put in a transfer request, so what can we do?
Andy was already earning top money at the club after signing a new deal recently. But he said he’d been offered £80,000-a-week from Liverpool and asked what we would pay to make him stay. We told him the club just couldn’t afford to give him a deal like that, nothing close. And when we said ‘no’ - well, that’s when he put in his transfer request. Yes, he went in our helicopter. But the sooner the deal was done the sooner we could make our own moves in the transfer market. It was already very late.”

There is so many holes in this statement its untrue but consider this - did Liverpool make an illegal approach to Carroll? And what moves did they make in the transfer market that needed them to push him into a helicopter and well, they haven’t spent this summer have they? If it looks like bullshit, smells like bullshit, its usually bullshit.

I don’t want to list all of Llambias’ misdemeanours here but it is clear Mike Ashley has a man at the helm of Newcastle United, who is unable to lead a prominent Premier League football and has alienated managers, players and supporters alike. No less figures in the club’s history than Alan Shearer and Kevin Keegan have been treated with contempt and the only time we hear him from him is when he feels he has cause to rebuke someone.

In the last week alone three players who were central to us consolidating our return to the Premier League last season have accused Llambias of lying. You don’t need me to remind you that an FA Tribunal found much the same when considering the circumstances of Kevin Keegan’s resignation as manager at our club. A club he served with distinction as a captain and manager.

Yet here Llambias is, we are informed, the prime mover in placing Joey Barton on the transfer list on no less than a FREE transfer as a complete over-reaction to some Twitter comments. A reaction that is likely to exacerbate rather than resolve any discontent amongst the squad and amongst supporters as the club might discover at Gateshead this week.

Barton isn’t an easy character to handle and I’m not going to justify his actions but football is filled with difficult personalities as all of the top clubs can confirm. How you deal with them and get the best out of them is the secret of management. Llambias just seems wholly unsuited to managing sportsmen. The man just seems unable to understand what is required to run a football club other than cutting costs to the bone to satisfy the balance sheet.

But what of Alan Pardew? Every passing week confirms his position as a complete placeman. A powerless, empty suit undermined at every key turn at the club by a spirit crushing absence of authority. Which other manager of a PL club would tolerate the conduct of Derek Llambias? It would appear Pardew played absolutely no role whatsoever in putting Barton on the transfer list? Imagine that being done over the head of Ferguson, Wenger or well, even Steve Bruce? Pardew should be demanding a one to one with Ashley now and top of his list should be the position of Derek Llambias!

Numerous reports speak of Mike Ashley as a man with an outgoing, engaging personality. That’s as maybe. At Newcastle United, he has appointed a man, Llambias to run his business who appears to have no respect for anyone - from Alan Shearer, Kevin Keegan, Chris Hughton to players and supporters. Llambias has no public profile whatsoever, he provides no leadership at all. He is a malevolent, divisive presence at our club. He should remove himself or his boss should wake up and bin him without delay.

He should resign and a replacement appointed who has what it takes to manage all aspects of a football club and look like he enjoys it.

I think Lamearse is the biggest reason behind the bad feeling between the fans and Ashley.

He couldnt have picked a less likeable or less suitable person for the job.

Maybe its a case of there arent many likeable or suitable sorts that are prepared to do Ashleys bidding though??

RE: true faith artical

Llambias is, without doubt, a useless turd.

Mort won't come back, and there is no way any man (or woman) of integrity would take, or indeed be offered, the job. So what do we get in return for our hard-fought victory to oust Llambias? More of the same.

It is the organ grinder who needs to go, not the monkey.

Still, I can see Ashley sacrificing Llambias in an attempt to appease the fans, and give them some sort of false impression they have some efficacy in determining the course of the club's future.

And for that comforting delusion, I can see it having a positive effect, so I'm all for it.

RE: true faith artical

the thing is I get the feeling Ashley just wants to be hands off and just try and get some sort of enjoyment out of his investment....

If that's the case, get some fucker who's got some experience in the roll, someone who is at least a bit media savvy and understands his customer base to take the pressure off and sit back and enjoy the ride

RE: true faith artical

I can't help but think though, mac, that Ashley doesn't know any such bloke, and he doesn't trust "football people" after being burned with the whole Wise/Keegan thing. I reckon he sees the business side of it as entirely separate from the football side, and doesn't understand why someone who is successful at running a business in another field shouldn't be able to apply those same skills in the murky and borderline criminal world of football.

As an aside, I work in a fairly specialised service industry, and we regularly promote managers from the ranks who are very good at their jobs, but they are shit managers. I used to think "why don't we employ a manager who knows how to manage to run that side of stuff, and then we can get on and run the service side?" Then I worked for a company that did that, and it was a fucking disaster. If the bloke at the top doesn't understand the service he's providing then he has no idea what budgets are reasonable, or what work schedules are appropriate. We would regularly find ourselves trying to cram 4 weeks work into a 2 week job, or spinning out a 2 week job for 2 months. Sadly, more of the former than the latter.

No, just to spin you round again:

I think Derek is a fucking toad who needs the boot ASAP, but I don't believe him getting the boot will change anything as Ashley will replace him with another of his cronies who will most likely be just as incompetent.

However, the replacement will achieve two things. Firstly, it's only most likely that he will be as bad, and he certainly can't be worse so we've nothing to lose; and secondly, it will give some very dispirited fans the delusion that their protests can have some effect on the club's hierarchy, and thereby mitigate the poisonous feelings of impotent rage swirling around the message boards at the moment.

RE: true faith artical

It just seems to me that he's missing a massive trick............

1) Employ a top scout who can spot a bargain before anyone else........box ticked I think

2) Employ a manager that can get the best out of a budget squad.........box not ticked but I'm not going to slag Pardew just yet

3) Employ a bloke to run the club that isn't going to slag the customers and sit there being a smug cunt when there are important issues to address...........box not even fuckin drawn, never mind ticked
