He was very erratic, that alone sets good players from great players who're idolised idiotically by same fans.

not sure what you mean?

are you saying I'm an idiot for not thinking he was utter gash as some like to make out?

Not at all, I think you've shown that in a black and white shirt he wasn't as bad as fans would believe he was. You have also said he was erratic, which to me separates the good players from the great players who are idolised. I would put Martins in the same bracket as Yakubu and Yeboah.

I liked Martins. I liked his attitude and his presence on the field and the fact he'd cause more problems to the opposition than he did to us, which is more than can be said for most of our team last season.

That said, I loved Ketsbaia, and I don't think many would consider the Georgian loon to be one of our finest.

And to be honest I wouldn't have either of them back, and don't particularly think either of them have been missed.

Never liked the bloke much. He never seemed to be on the same pitch as all the other players. His finishing wasnt bad, but it wasnt good either, he missed some pretty easy chances.

I wouldnt have him back. Move on, upwards & onwards.

Oh, bye the way. Have you checked the stats for Oba on Wiki.

Newcastle 88 appearances 28 goals
Inter 88 appearances 28 goals.

Pretty damn consistant like.Big Grin

oh aye.....I would never class him as a 'great' but that shouldn't detract from the fact he wasn't nearly as bad as some like to paint him

As I say.........I can't see the time when we will have anther striker anywhere near as exciting as him that is prepared to run at some of the best defenders in football.....that will shoot from anywhere.....that could out jump a bloke a foot taller than him

I'd much rather pay to watch his type rather than a goal moocher type like Owen

Martins wasn't bad at all. Very frustrating, but not a bad player.

As for bringing him back, no.

He was good, I loved his goals and I wish him well, but I'd much prefer it if we signed someone else. Fresh start, new signings. The ones who wanted to stay are still here, all the rest can keep the fuck away from us now.

Owen. Before that day at White Hart Lane.

Erm, actually, Shearer was still with us then I think, so that doesn't count.

not even worthy of discussion in my opinion. he is/was fucking gash. ok he scored a few wonder type goals but not nearly enough to be called prolific.

why do fans always want to go backwards in this world?
keegan
martins
etc etc
past is in the past move on and fuck those that left when the getting got tough.

aye bringing Keegan back was a massive mistake.....same with Beardsley and what a total cunt Roeder was for coming back and rescuing us from near relegation

I can see your point like

Would this be the same Martins who can't get into an average Wolfsburg side who lost at home to Fulham last night?

As I've said on a few occasions, I am frankly amazed we were relegated last season. According to some people that side was full of good players. How on earth did they ever manage to get relegated?

Martins, Beye, Given, Bassong....how did it ever happen? Bar Given and Duff all the players we flogged struggle to even get into the teams they went to. Must be some mistake, surely?

Or could it possibly be that they aren't actually as good as people seem to think they are? Big Grin

aye just ignore the fact that we barely had a solid management team for more than a couple of months at a time.........I don't think anybody is saying that Martins is a great player (apart from Viana) but he's a hell of a lot better than what we've got now and a hell of a lot beter than we are going to get in the next couple of seasons

I don't paticularly want him back myself but I'm prepared to argue his case against people who are happy to write him off as gash when he quite clearly wasn't

hehe...Owen suffered from lack of service and not enough quality around him....Martins was just gash?....weyaye

Our win ratio when martins played was fuxking superb throughout his time at nufc. Compared to when he didn't play. He made us tick. And we'll miss him in the PL next season.

I will bow down to your knowledge of these chaps, but, if they were that good how come they are midtable and lose home and away to Fulham?

Anyway he's not coming back so it's all a bit immaterial innit.

I'm with mac on this, i'm not saying oba was brilliant as all know he wasnt but given a chance of having him come back to play alongside carroll with spiderman routledge and jose stringing balls and link up passes to him i think he could do a really good job.

I'd have him back over some of the names were getting linked with ie bullard fletcher or geovanni.

A pacier midfield would definately help martins get more goals.
