He's by far the best player ever.

the viewing figures for tonights game will be interesting. Personally I'd rather watch Barcelona than Chelsea for instance. I've never understood this thing about supporting English sides in European games to be honest.

RE: messi

It is difficult to compare players from different eras and i have only seen the likes of Pele/Maradona/Eusebio on video but for me Messi is above any player i have seen.

Everything he does just seems so effortless and his composure his unbelievable, the fact he is only 7 goals of a club like Barcelona all time scoring record and he is still just 24 speaks for itself!

RE: messi

Until he can reproduce his immense club form for Argentina, he can never be classed as the best player ever!!

At the moment, i'd give that title to Cristiano Ronaldo.

He's done better than Messi has, and hasn't got the kind of players messi has playing around him.

Plus he helped them to the Euro 2004 final, and was named in the team of the tournament.

I'm with Bob. C Ronaldo is better as he isn't as much of a fanny and actually possesses an ounce of strength

Spot on notts. And as for Messi not possessing an ounce of strength, what a load of bollocks! He tries to get halved almost every match and i cant remember one instance when watching him of him being bullied of the ball!

RE: messi

I think Messi is fucking class.

Its hard to compare him with the likes of Pele and Best as football was totally different back then but I think we're lucky to be able to watch a player of his class week in week out, players like Messi dont come around very often.

I'd have Messi over Ronaldo every day of the week though.

Anyone who rates Ronaldo over Messi is gay. Pure and simple fruity frock-wearing fucking friends of dorothy.

Messi is a class above any other player out there at the minute, and I'd say who ever did kick a ball. The game is totally different to how it was 30-40 years ago, but I'd say it's harder to excel in the current game then it was back in the pies-and-fags days.

On another note, why the fuck can no team, not even a team as mind-meltingly amazing as Barca, actually close out a big scoring game without conceding the obligatory consolation goal? It annoys me immensely, and - I accept - irrationally.

RE: messi

It's a fair point, he's never scored once against the barely evolved pond scum from the banks of the wear, and as such we'd have to bench him in favour of Shola. Still, he might get the odd five minutes here and there, once the Shomernator had put them to the sword.

Ronaldo was la liga's top scorer last season, and is currently 2 goals ahead of Messi this season.

Not bad for a winger.

I think John 'Fop' Motson has called this right. Messi is a better all round player, a better team player and also not a 'Get Shrek sent off in a major tournament' -er either. Ronaldiver is a preening, truculent, hissy fitting show pony, but probably gets the nod over Squidward Obertan on our bench.

Seems to spend most of his time out there, and as for assists, considering he rarely passes to anyone, i'd probably give the nod to Leeeonel Messi on that one.

RE: messi

Ronaldo is a very good headerer of the ball, possibly the only thing he has the messi doesn't. Although Messi did win them a CL against Utd with a header, so not too bad
