The lad is the best player in the world right now. People write off Argentina too easily for the World Cup. If he displays the form he is showing right now he could win it almost single handed like Maradona did in '86.

Messi reminds me of Beardsley at his peak. Different era, but same type of player. Check out some of these goals if anyone doubts me. He's probably the most skilful player I've ever seen in a black and white shirt.

I remember seeing this in a fanzine in the '80s. As the years have gone by I persuaded myself I had imagined the whole thing.

The wonders of the internet. Remarkable invention.

Beardsley was class but Messi is in a different league. He will be up there with Pele and Maradona when he hangs up his boots.

I honestly thought messi would be too lightweight to be a sucess in the prem but his pace and lightning quick feet counter act all that

Best player I have ever seen in my lifetime thus far

Oh I only meant Messi reminded me of Pedro. Messi is up there with the greats already, however to really prove himself in the Pele, Maradona league he must produce in a World Cup. At 22 he has the time....who knows, we could have two World Cup winners in our squad in the summer?

yes, I think he would. Very underrated player really. Hardly even gets mentioned by NUFC fans that much, which is a mystery to me. I'm not trying to say he is as good as Messi, but I stand by what I said that he is the most skilful player I have seen in a black and white shirt (which stretches back to 1977).

Rooney is class but Mess is in a different league skill wise. He is on £27m a year at Barca and i bet Madrid would spend £200m on him if he was ever available and pay him £500k pw.

He is a genius but then again Barcelona have such a good squad so its easier for him. Dont think he'd shine as bright playing for us LOL.

Lips I'm with you tonight - something about Messi's pace, movement, stature and guile reminded me of Beardsley - could have been the haircut too.

Tonight was the Messi show and jesus at 22 he must be one of the best ever with more to come,
