Carroll back on saturday?

Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has confirmed that striker Andy Carroll will be considered for selection in Saturday's trip to Barnsley.

The forward was omitted from the Magpies squad for Wednesday's win at Coventry after being arrested over an alleged assault early on Monday morning.

Hughton was cagey when questioned on the subject in his post-match press conference at the Ricoh Arena and he remains keen to keep matters private.

But the Newcastle boss, whose side sit seven points clear at the top of the Championship following excellent form, could select Carroll at Oakwell.

Hughton said: "Anything on disciplinary matters is always kept very much in-house, but Andy comes back into the reckoning for Saturday's game."
