Butt pondering future in the game

Newcastle veteran Nicky Butt does not expect to be playing for the Toon next season and is considering retiring from the game at the age of 35.

The midfielder has already given thought to calling time on his illustrious career at the end of the current campaign after 18 years in football.

But the 35-year-old has sought advice from ex-players and coaches who have insisted he should stay in the game beyond the 2009/2010 season.

And Butt, who featured in the Magpies' 3-2 win over Peterborough on Saturday to put them on the brink of a Premier League return, remains undecided on whether to hang up his boots.

"To be honest, I don't know whether I want to play on or not," the former Manchester United and England man told the Daily Star Sunday. "If I do it might be here or at a lower level.

Smith is pants - he could just about cut it in the fizzy pop but not in the Prem any nore.
trouble is he is one of the so called 'senior players' who allegedly hold a lot of influence at the club (along with Nolan) and I cant see him wanting to go.

I'd keep smith for cover like. But butt will be out the door, never have i seen a player lose posession as much as him since Agnew!

Smith has been a very important player for us this season. In a defensive midfield position

M8 on £60k pw we can do better than him. Remember he is a striker and even if he is a midfielder now he still should have scored a goal for us in all the time he has been here.

To me he has been one of our worst buys in a very long time along with the likes of Luque/Viana. How much has he earned since he has been here and coupled with the £6m we paid for him he has been an utter waste of money.

Also i think the team has played very well with him out the team over the last month or so.

Butt's debut against the smoggies was fantastic....................and that was that, apart from solid displays of negative posession.

He has been a good footballer and still is. He is comitted, steely and a good pro. He is however slow, short tempered and ginger.

The last category is reason enough. Begone and wither in a lower league my son.

I've never understood the use of the word pants for deriding something. I think pants are brilliant things
