Jonjo not an option for England.

Disappointed for the lad if this is true, but as a clubs perspective, happy to get him back fit and rested for the season,

Surely this says more about Southgate's lack of man management skills than anything. Most really talented players have some personality issues. At England level they need to be managed. Shows why we have a national team of boring players that nobody wants to watch

RE: Jonjo not an option for England.

Ordinarily I’d say it’s a good thing for us that he’s not selected for the World Cup and that he’ll be back fresh for pre-season.

But I suspect that he might react poorly to his omission, either sulking and letting his focus and form suffer or morph into a want-away player.

From his perspective, I do really feel for him. He’s been the best English central midfielder for the last 5 months and has justifiably worked his way into being talked about for a call-up. To be omitted now is testament to Southgates poor management prowess. To be omitted and for the overriding reason be because of ‘temperant issues’ is bad enough (not least because he’s been impeccable since December) but to then see Jake Livermore, a man with far less talent, be selected instead is insult to injury. Livermore, let’s not forget, during his last foray abroad, stole a fucking taxi.

I feel for Jonjo, I really do.

RE: Jonjo not an option for England.

On about his discipline yet Dele Alli is in the squad..absolute joke.

No other English midfielder can pass the ball like Shelvey, simple as that.

Typical England, picking workmen over skill players.

Jonjo not an option for England.

He deserves to go, simply based on the other options alone.

RE: Jonjo not an option for England.

Shelvey was never an option, he hasn’t even been mentioned until a month ago and never featured for gareff. England much better off with the mesmeric talents of fabian delph and gary cahill, doing such a stand up job for their respective reserve teams.

Jonjo not an option for England.

Only taking 5 "midfielders", no surprise that he didn't make the cut in that case. Clearly going 5 at the back and possibly even play 3 forwards, Sterling, Kane, Vardy/Rashford?

Of those 5 midfielders, Alli, Dier, Henderson and Lingard are all hard to argue against - Loftus-Cheek is the other one, not really sure what he's done this season and I'd obviously rate Shelvey higher, but that's cause I haven't seen a lot of Palace.

Jake Livermore on standby though - surely Shelvey is at least more deserving of that spot.

Jonjo not an option for England.

It's a fucking stupid squad. 10 defenders and 5 midfielders? Load of wank.

RE: Jonjo not an option for England.

England just aren't a good tournament team, and that is proven by the facts. The dipper at full back is worth a punt as is Ashley Young who's had a good season at man u, although what the hell Phil Jones brings to the party I'm not sure. The midfield is ok but no more than that, whilst the nearest we have to anything like world class is Kane. I still say our best hope isn't this World Cup but the next one, if those kids who won the junior version keep progressing.
I want to be proved wrong, it is my country's team, but when in an average Prem week, only about 30 English players in the whole league play regularly, then the gene pool is getting shallower and shallower for us. Frankly I don't know why any manager of repute would touch us with a barge pole, even in these days of reduced hysteria and expectation.

Yeah me too. Never understood the attitude of wanting to see your national team fail, regardless of your opinions on and off the pitch.

Jonjo not an option for England.

I reckon the 'negativity' regarding England in these major competitions stems from past experiences where they haven't seemed to give two fucks

I want us to win but fully expect them to disappoint

RE: Jonjo not an option for England.

ofcourse i would like england to win the world cup, or even get to the final again after 52 years, it's just as you get older your optimism diminishes having been hyped up for so many tournaments only to be dumped out by the krauts or little fooking iceland. i have a four foot wall planner and bunting with flags of all the countries and 2 massive george cross flags and a three lions flag, but to me its not ALL about england, i see it as the coming together of all nations to celebrate the greatest sport on the planet....Amen
