Beardsley

I see that today marks a year since he was given a period of leave.

Are they hoping he just walks away and they don't have to sack a club legend?

Sources have told Sportsmail they do not expect Beardsley to return to his role as Under 23s coach and the mood around the academy is said to be transformed with ex-Toon goalkeeper Steve Harper having stepped up to assist new boss Ben Dawson.

Several players made allegations last January, and Sportsmail revealed at the end of last season that an independent appeal found the former England forward did make discriminatory comments, and that his treatment of Yasin Ben El-Mhanni was 'generally unfair'.

Academy players have openly made their feelings about Beardsley (left) known during his period of leave and there was one training-ground sing-along this season which saw lyrics adapted to mention their former coach.

Sportsmail also revealed last year that Newcastle were urged to investigate Beardsley's treatment of academy players as far back as 2016, after the family of England youth international Lewis Gibson contacted the club to raise concerns.

A grievance meeting was then scheduled and attended by the player and his family, as well as Beardsley, Charnley and academy director Joe Joyce.

But Beardsley refused to accept he had done anything wrong and said he would not change his ways. He was allowed to continue in his role and it was to the dismay of many within the academy when Gibson reluctantly left his boyhood club in July 2017 to join Everton, in a deal which may rise to £6million.

The Premier League and the FA have told Sportsmail that the investigation remains the concern of the club and Beardsley has even attended FA coaching courses at St George's Park over the past 12 months.

It's such a shame.

I switched on the telly a few days ago and the 5-0 against Man U from 96 was on. So, of course, I watched it with nostalgic glee. I hadn't remembered, despite always saying that Beardsley was the best player we've ever had, just how fucking good he was with a football at his feet.

An absolute hero. But now a bit of a nobber.

Outstanding footballer, and very popular little bloke amongst fellow professionals, but doesn't seem to be cut out to be a coach or a manager...........obviously

RE: Beardsley

He'd no doubt be pulled up for this sort of tackle as well these days:

Apparently, when Liverpool lost to Everton in the League Cup in 1987, Dogleish was furious with the players and said there would be new faces arriving soon. Pedro asked if he could have one… allegedly.

“The time is now right for me to seek a new challenge and I wish the players all the best and the supporters the success they deserve.

“I have always honoured by contractual obligations of confidentiality to the Club and maintained my silence, which has in itself been very difficult.

The fact they haven't mentioned any of the internal findings from the investigation suggest he was guilty

RE: Beardsley

from champ to chump...what a plum.

It makes no difference if his comments to El-Mhanni were simply "banter" its irresponsible and he is meant to be setting an example to young players, and don't get me started on his Mike Ashley arse-licking, what a fucking crawler. Rolleyes

Now the FA have waded in..

The FA have got involved after Newcastle failed to announce the findings of their internal investigation into his conduct, which began back in January 2018.

The game’s rulers are refusing to accept the probe being swept under the carpet amid such serious allegations, especially those of racism.

FA chiefs could not interfere while Beardsley’s future was still being resolved.

But following the announcement of Beardsley’s departure, they have told Newcastle to reveal if any of the claims against him have been proven — or they will conduct their own investigation.

‘An FA spokesperson said:

“The allegations made against Peter Beardsley continue to be under consideration by The FA.
