Quote:‘Plethora’ means not just a lot, but too many – and mid-2010s Newcastle made a plethora of bad European signings. Amid various Frenchmen and De Jongs, however, was a 20-year-old Spanish bargain who had reportedly been courted by both Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Perez doesn’t turn many heads, but in a low-scoring side he averaged a goal or assist every other league game last season – a better rate than Shaqiri and Zaha, among others – while only five other players outside the ‘big six’ clubs contributed more in 2018. If Newcastle go down again, Perez will have more suitors this time.

Didn't realise he contributed that much last year

He had a belting closing few months of the season.

I think he will again, the arrival of Almiron will work in his favour I think, he certainly wont just be replaced.

He's been a victim of our lack of a decent striker for a good while now

He had nobody to take the pressure off in terms of clearing out space for him or working little interchanges with

My main criticisms are he goes down far too easy and he doesn't score enough goals directly facing goal - a lot of his goals are glancing headers or clever flicks

Not a bad player and he cost peanuts. He needs to be stronger on the ball and stop going down like he has been shot so often. He can be a decent finisher and is also quite skilful.

Needs his head up when hes carrying the ball, he often misses an opportunity to open teams up just by not seeing the pass.

Feel like he has improved a fair bit in the last few months.

I've always thought he's a good player. Especially for the price we paid. He can be infuriating when he's not on his game, but quite often the quality surrounding him is lacking.
