It's because I said that Mike Ashleys only target was 17th...toonraider would appear to disagree.

I don't think we need a countdown clock to remind us that Rafa is on his way.

Rafa states what is needed to keep him as manager

The title of that article...It now seems almost certain that Rafa Benitez will sign a new contract at Newcastle United

The first sentence of that article...It is always a risk to make a definitive statement on anything to do with Rafa Benitez’s future at Newcastle United...

Journalism at its finest

Rafa states what is needed to keep him as manager

Rafa Benitez has signed a contract with Score Agencies.

They are agents based in Lyon the contract lasts until 1 September 2019 and gives them the rights to manage his interests in France, the Newcastle manager tasking them with the job of finding out what interest there is from Ligue 1 clubs in employing him this summer.

Just seen his interview after the game, seemed pissed off to fuck when talking about the new contract situation.

It's over.

Burn it to the ground.

Fuck you Mike Ashley.

RE: Rafa states what is needed to keep him as manager

The long goodbye is nearly over.

It's gonna be weird having zero interest in NUFC, Rafa was the only thing that kept me hanging on.

I will literally just switch off from all things NUFC until Ashley is gone.

Possibly the best manager we've ever had and an owner who is actively trying to get him to leave, it's fucking heartbreaking.

If it happened it would prove the Universe is out to fuck you, personally, up. I'd knack that Brian Cox bloke, he tinkers with Universey stuff. A bloke in my local saw him aligning planets in a certain way just to spite you.

We'd just been mugged by Crystal Palace from the usual stupidity of one of our players so he's not going to be in the mood to discuss a question he's been asked a million times previously.

RE: Rafa states what is needed to keep him as manager

Rafa Benitez has sold his Napoli blueprint to the Newcastle United hierarchy as he attempts to bridge the gap with clubs such as Friday night's opponents Leicester City.

The Spaniard remains in discussions over a new contract and has likened the process to Brexit, so delicate is the situation given his ambition to be better than a Premier League also-ran.

Benitez, though, says his plan for improvement is achievable, he just wants Mike Ashley to trust his methods.

To persuade the owner that his way is the best way, he has pointed to his legacy at Napoli and his success in the transfer market, where his current club would prefer to only sign players under 26 with a sell-on value.

'If you want to win something, then in my experience you need experience,' said Benitez. 'If not, you need all the best young players in the world, but we cannot have that.

'Now, we have to plan and imagine anything. At Napoli, for instance, we showed it is important to find this balance.

'We were signing players with experience first - Dries Mertens, Gonzalo Higuain, Raul Albiol, Jose Callejon, Lorenzo Insigne was already there - after we signed Kalidou Koulibaly and Jorginho, who were young players who had enough quality.

'When you put them together with the experience of Christian Maggio and Pepe Reina, then you have a good team.

'When you have the potential to do that, see what can be done, it is what we are looking for (here).'

Benitez added: 'When I arrived at Napoli, the president came to see me and said, "We will sell Edinson Cavani". We sold him for around £60m to PSG, then we reinvested the money to make a team who could compete in Europe.

'The president had this vision, and he did it really well. For around £60m we signed Reina, Higuain, Callejon, Mertens and Albiol. Afterwards we signed younger players - and then we built a team.

'Eventually they sold Jorginho for £57m, and Higuain for £90m. Just with these two players we doubled the money. It's about finding the balance between profit and investing. Now that club has had four years or more in the Champions League.'

Benitez looks at Leicester and admits that is the level Newcastle should be at.

'If you want to sign any player who is at Leicester now, think how much it is going to cost,' he said.

'It is not easy to do that (catch up) in one year. If you look at them, they were champions three years ago, they have a good team now, and the future is looking good.

'They have experience, good young players, good internationals, and three young English players. It's a strong team.'

He is just preparing us for our next loss v Leicester then he can say ‘I told you so’ it’s becoming a repetitive theme. I bet we go to Leicester try to sit deep and get beaten. Why not go and attack and get beaten. We need points to guarantee survival ffs. We are not safe yet!!!

RE: Rafa states what is needed to keep him as manager

I beg to differ last night we got amongst them and surprise we won. I think Rafa is a very good manager don’t get me wrong but sometimes too defensive. To say someone is clueless is harsh just because they have a different opinion to you is bollocks as far as I am concerned.Of course I am happy with the result last night like every other person who supports NUFC.
