Aye - I posted that before the second though - just think he's been quiet considering he's usually in the mix

I think Longstaffs goal was better than it looked at first - he picked his spot perfectly in a crowded box

Great strike for the first. Can't remember when last I saw a long range hammer like that go in for us.
Really pleased for Longstaff. Great finish. He must be elated!
Keep it up lads.

Hope Burnley get relegated.

Dyche is the new Allardyce, dirty players and anti football.

NUFC v Burnley - Match Thread

Rafa is the first manager in my memory who has made 3 at the back work for us. Many have dabbled with it but soon scrapped it.

As soon as Longstaff decides he's getting the ball he always seems to know what he's going to do next, a very quick decision maker. The only time I remember him not getting the ball to a teammate was when he stuck it in the net. He just looks like he's in control. Off the ball he's surveying for the best opportunity to win it back and to move it on quickly. Brilliant stuff from the lad.

Just spot on from Robbie Earle.

Honestly can't understand some of our own fans not wanting Rafa as manager, but there ya gan.

He is single-handedly keeping us up and then some.

He is also a lovely man.

Great performance and 3 valuable points, I feel we can take points off anyone right now and that we are a team nobody wants to play.

well to be honest I haven't heard too many people say they wanted a different manager - there have been a few but certainly not a significant number as far as I'm aware

There were however, plenty of people who were not happy with the style of play and the negative, defensive performances against teams we should have been having a go at - particularly at home

I made the point the other day that our first win of the season (in November) came about largely on the back of 3 enforced substitutions. More specifically when KI replaced Shelvey and we instantly saw a different, more effective style of play

If you think performances like yesterday are purely down to the addition of Almiron you couldn't be more wrong - performances like yesterday are because Benitez has taken off the shackles that were imposed on the players in the first half of the season

We get players forward in numbers now, not just on the break

Shar scored an absolute belter from 25 yards yesterday but in the first half of the season he would barely have crossed the half way line

I personally thought Benitez was playing a political game with Ashley to try and prove a point - resulting in muted performances, and a woeful home record

This side had pace and power in it before Almiron came in to play along side Rondon but it was restricted on purpose - Kenedy played at left back with the ineffective Atsu infront of him, Diame played in the same deep roll that saw him struggle first have last season until he was allowed more freedom which then saw him have a real impact on games

Everybody understands the restrictions Rafa is working under but for me he imposed his own restrictions on the side early on and we looked awful for it

He definitely ISN'T keeping us up single handed either like

.

They must be the ones who watched games earlier in the season. I had to stop watching. It was probably the right way to play to get points but was horrible to watch. Do they have any other suggestions to replace him? I'm happy with Rafa and hope he stays.

I dont think it was a case of passing him by, more so that they did a really good job on him. When I say good, I also mean sneid fouls and pushes a lot of the time. In fact I have not seen so many pushes be allowed to go on in a game of football.

Perhaps he needs to go down a bit more when that kind of tactic is used, which is shit really.

Horrible side them mind - Their set up on the opening kick off summed them up - They had a queue of players all bunched up on the halfway line ready to charge forward to get on the end on a punt upfield, which ultimately was spannered and went nowhere near their huddle.

They are Bolton of the Allardyce days Mark 2. Their whole strategy was get the ball near the box and keep it in play while a bunch of beefcakes just threw themselves at it.

POMO was Allardyces term for it - Position Of Maximum Opportunity. What a cunt for even saying POMO out loud.
