I was at a talk in with Beardsley a couple of weeks ago and I asked him if he thought Carroll would make it

As it turns out Carrolls brother was in the audience but Beardsley was canny honest......he said pretty much the same as Shearer........he has to improve in every department and the jury is still very much out as to whether he has the right temperament

I think 16 goals so far in his first full season is quite a good return

I think he has already improved a hell of a lot in the last 3 months alone.

It's not just his goals, his all round play is so much better - his flick ons are now thought about, his hold up play has improved, he puts a cracking cross in, a big asset in both attacking and defending set pieces and of course he is far more composed in front of goal.

I think he will struggle for space next season though, and given he isn't the quickest of forwards I can see him having a frustrating time against a lot of sides. If he can get past that and work on his movement we may well have a decent player on our hands.

he has improved but I'd say he's only improved to about the level of Shola

It's going to be a big, big season for him next season (fingers crossed)

The thing is, regardless of the ins and outs of the Taylor/Carroll bust up, it's all a bit late over Carroll as far as disciplinary action from Hughton is concerned.

The glassing of that kid and the way Carroll was given a teeny tiny slap on the wrist gave him the green light to act the hard man any time he fancies.

How would the likes of Ferguson have acted over the night club incident? If he'd been dropped for a month then none of this bullshit might have happened. Now we face the prospect of losing Taylor when we will need as many players as we can keep in the summer.

I for one, regardless of anyone else's opinion in the press, remain convinced that if the club is to proceed we need a higher profile manager in the summer, otherwise a season of strife and sackings will ensue.

If Ashley appoints the likes of Hughes in the summer it will be a marker that the club are taking the Prem League seriously - if not then I fear another season of woe.

I just don't think Hughton has what it takes, so why waste a transfer window and 10 games? Thanks Chris, but you've gone as far as your abilities can take you.

The thing is, if Hughton has any brains, which I think he has, he may just surprise everyone and ask to go back to being a coach........hee hee hee! As if!

It's a shame how predictable it all is though. I think Hughton has done a brilliant job this season, but there is a massive danger that all he will be remembered for is getting the sack as soon as the transfer windon closes, or at best Xmas.

I of course hope I am wrong and he has learned a lot and proves to be a new Moyes or Hughes and takes us to the top 6 in a couple of seasons, but.......

As Sal pointed out what about Cantona? And druggie Ferdinand?

Fergie let the law punush them - no need for him to punish them any more.

Hughes is probably the only 'name' that we could get realistically. I cant imagine the likes of Sven or Hiddink are anywhere near our radar.

Its a tough one with Hughton, I am not convinced that he has what it takes either, but we are probably going to get promoted as champions which means unless Hughton does step down, he has to be sacked which is crazy given the circumstances.

Moyes would be ideal.

However I think he will quite rightly think that he has done enough now to warrant a job with a bit more freedom than what he has had at Everton, in terms of funds to play with.

He wont get that with us, so he might as well stay put at Everton.

Hang on, last time our manager was up for grabs, we were left with fucking Joe Kinnear.

Shearer only took the job because he loves the club and he wanted to try and help, nobody else will touch us.

I think Moyes would be seriously tempted, but the fact is, if Ashley stays - so will Hughton. We would probably need to spend 20-30 million to give ourselves a fighting chance of making a go of the Prem, we need much more competition for places. I just cannot imagine any situation whatsoever were Ashley would give Hughton that amount of cash, unless he sold half the squad we have now.
Maybe Hughton has earned the right, but i've seen precedents set in this situation, and it does concern me that he isn't Prem material as a manager. Good luck to him, but i'm going to enjoy this bit of success for now.

So would Ashley give Moyes £20-30m?

And if not, will Moyes really be able to do any better than Hughton?

And why on earth would Moyes come here, he's got a much better job at Everton.

If Moyes came, i'm pretty sure a decent transfer kitty would be part of the deal. No point otherwise.

Was Hughes not sounded out about the West Ham job, but wanted too much money? Think that prices him out of our hot seat, too. Probably much to his relief.

Well if he's learned his lesson, he'd give the money to Hughton?

Hughton has proven to be good enough in the transfer market so far, so if he has money, then he could do a decent job in the PL.
