Premier League Squad Rules 2010/11

25 players in the squad. 8 Home Grown players.

A home grown player is defined as any player who, irrespective of nationality, has been with any club in the FA (or Welsh FA) for a period, continuous or not, of fully 36 months before his 21st birthday.

Clubs can supplement their squad with unlimited additional players under the age of 21, from 1st January onwards.

Changes to the squadlist of 25 can only be made during the transfer windows.

So basically, it doesn't affect us.

What it does mean though, is that the likes of Vuckic, who probably won't be in the squad of 25, can't play until January?

Good rules but they havent gone far enough there should be at least 5 or 6 home grown players playing in the 1st 11.

Is this just Prem? Because I remember something about UEFA wanting to bring in a system whereby a percentage of you notified players for European comps, had to be 'homegrown'.

I think a lot of other countries do already have these rules?

I don't think 8 out of 25 will affect too many teams to be honest.

I think so, but I meant more for European club competitions like the Europa and Champs League. In these financial times it makes sense tbh, it will certainly sort out the the proper managers from the cheque book ones.

8 of 25 shouldnt really effect any teams.

I think Vukic will be in the squad anyway.

It would make sense, aye.

Arsenal would be fine, most of their young foreigners have been at the club longer than 3 years.

Man United still have good core of English players.

Liverpool though - Glen Johnson, Gerrard, Carragher, possibly Agger...they'll struggle.

Chelsea - 2 Cole's, Lampard, Terry, Sturridge and Turnbull then who? It means they'll have to leave two first team players out of their 25, and put a couple of young kids into the squad to make up the 8 homegrown players.

In a squad of 25? Hmmm, maybe.

I just meant any young lad to be honest, his was the first name that came to me head. Like, Tozer for example, if we have a lot of injuries and need somebody on the bench, we can't get the young kids into the squad until after January.

Exactly. With clubs only allowed to register 25 players, those clubs with the massive squads will have players on massive wages wandering around the training field knowing they can't even play. Think there'll be a lot going up for sale.

Is there really that many top sides with first team squads bigger than 25????

I have never given it a second thought but I cant imagine even Chelsea have 26+ players on first team wages, leaving some that will be kicking around with no squad number???

On the subject of "rejects" I find it funny how the mackems are saying how far they've come since they replaced the shite such as Whitehead and Lawrence with Malbranque and Richardson - yet 6 of those rejects are in the Stoke side who are above them in the table. Smile

They have more than 25, not much like, but Man United would have the likes of Macheda or Gibson doing nothing.

Arsenal would be fine.

Chelsea would need to put the likes of Sam Hutchison into their first 25 to make up the 8 homegrown players and then drop one of their bigger players. (unless they sign somebody)

Liverpool will struggle even more because in their squad I can only see 3 players who definitely match the homegrown criteria, unless Agger and Babel and Benayoun were at English clubs 3 years before they turned 21? Even then, they'd need to find another 3 homegrown players from the academy to make up the 8 and again that would mean leaving some of the foreigners out.

What's complicated about a squad of 25 players of which 8 have to be homegrown?

I only read it once like...and glossed over it.

That Richy doesn't half go on. He's competing with Count for making a point in the most complicated way Wink

I never said he was man.

I used him as an example of the young kids that have made our bench this season to make up the numbers.

Next season, we have to stick to the squad of 25, until January. So until January, we'd not be allowed to put the likes of Vuckic on the bench if we had injuries.
