NUFC stars may not receive winners' medals

The ruling from Football League chiefs means that some Toon stars may not get the recognition they deserve as they close in on an inevitable title triumph.

There are 22 players who have made at least a dozen league starts, with 50% of them at risk of not receiving medals.

I know it sounds picky but Barton been out injured most of the season should he get one.?

Newcastle would have to make a decision on which of the 33 players used this season should pick up winners’ gongs.

A League spokesman said: “The club will receive 21 medals, including five for non-playing staff. It’s up to the club to distribute the medals.”

Departed players such as Damien Duff, Marlon Harewood, Zurab Khizanishvili, Partick Van Aanholt and Geremi have all made appearances for United this season but are unlikely to be considered.

And the Football League rulebook states the manager, chief administrator, physio and two other non-playing members of staff are also entitled to winners’ gongs.

It's just a piece of metal. Hand 20 out at Random, take the other one to planet trophies in Killingworth and ask them to knock up another 50 or so. Hand the spare ones to the superest of our superfans.

I have been assured, that some of the "experienced" players will forefeit their gong for the younger lads.

Promotion is what they were after.

So you would take a medal of Shola (the same Shola who has scored 10 goals this season) over Krul...who has played 45 minutes this season?

Fucking heck.

Steve Krull has been the substitute keeper all season m8. Do you think Chelsea/Manures substitute keepers wont get a Premier league winners medal whichever club wins the title because they will.

Its not about how many games Krull has played its the fact the kid has been on the bench waiting for his chance but luckily Harper hasnt been injured.

Yeah....sub. Second choice.

Shola has more than earnt his medal no matter what some people think. How anyone can deny it is beyond me.

So what your saying is every team shouldnt have a substitute keeper because they wont play in many games in a season. how many clubs have played their 3 substitutes then their keeper gets sent off or injured and they have to put an outfield player in goal making it virtually impossible not to concede goals.

Its not just the players on the pitch that is counted m8 its the whole lot of them the ones on the bench included so if thats the case how can you say Krull doesnt deserve his medal.

So you fully expect in the champions league final every substitute on the bench wont receive their medal if their team wins because they will get one because they are in the team.

Ameobi deserves his medal he has score 10 fucking goals for us he rightly deserves it but so does Krull because he has been in the squad every game and if Harper got injured he'd be playing.

I thought you had to make 'X' number of league appearances to even be considered for a winners medal??

Could have sworn that was the case in the PL anyhow.

You're right Rotti, but if it came down to Shola and Krul there's only one winner for me.
