Demba Ba has revealed he found rumours that he could leave Newcastle United in January 'funny' after insisting he is happy at St James' Park.

The Senegal striker has been a revelation on Tyneside since joining the Magpies last summer from West Ham United and has scored 16 goals in 20 Premier League appearances.

Last month's transfer window prompted a flurry of speculation that Ba could move on after it emerged the forward has a release clause in his contract.

Ba was linked with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, but he stressed that he never had any intention of seeking a move away from Newcastle.
Smile

"I never talked to anyone to say I wanted to leave," said Ba. "I was just listening to people saying: 'He's going there, he's going there, he's going there' and I had a big smile on my face. It was funny to me.

"I was just listening to people saying: 'He's going there, he's going there, he's going there' and I had a big smile on my face. It was funny to me."
Demba Ba
Quotes of the week
"The most important thing is being happy with your football and I am happy here."

Ba returned from Africa Cup of Nations duty to score in Sunday's 2-1 win over Aston Villa to maintain the Magpies' push for UEFA Champions League qualification.

He added: "I look at the table and think 'Fifth? Woah!" We just need to continue our road, continue doing what we're doing this season and see where we are in the end.

"We need to keep our focus but as long as we do that, we'll have some very good games. I don't want to talk about exactly where we'll finish because it depends on a lot of things but as long as we keep going we'll be a dangerous side."

The 26-year-old's compatriot Papiss Cisse marked his debut with the winner against Villa and Ba is confident the January signing will be a big hit at Newcastle.

"It was a great signing," said Ba. "I was very happy when he signed.

"I wasn't too bothered who we signed as long as we got a new striker it would help us. But fortunately for me it was someone from my country who I know well and I know how good he is.

"He talked to me before he signed a little bit. I just said to him 'Go on - sign'. He asked everything about Newcastle - how were the supporters, the club.

"I've not told him everything because I want him to see for himself what it is like here. But he's going to see it now. He loved the reception he got."

He could well bugger off somewhere in the summer though! A new deal needs putting in front of him with no silly release clauses.

Im guessing this is a long shot but i dont suppose anyone has two spare tickets fot the Sunderland game?

Im from Edinburgh and i was going to get my dad tickets for his birthday(last years birthday) but was having to wait until the general sale but as you know it sold out yesterday.

I have a hotel already booked so would be a bit of a waste without tickets to the game.

Just this once, come on Spurs. Thrash the fuckers tonight.

I'm sick of reading and hearing the pity party surrounding Liverpool at the minute. Twats like Phil Thompson and that raving homosexuual Lawrenson implying that NUFC are somehow in a false position because we're above that shower of shit in the league.

They need to look at their own club before sniping at ours. We're were we are on merit. Same as that fucking shower. If we, or Sunderland, or Villa would have a midfield consisting of Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson they would have been written off as "mid table signings". Look at oour midfield you pair of twats. Look at it! Tiote and Cabaye against Adam and Henderson! Fuck off.

Then look at our strikers and look at theirs. That piss in a bag scrunched up Alzheimers manager of theirs would swap his for ours in a heartbeat if he could. Including four goals Luis Suarez who would most likely be labelled a shitty buy if he played for anyone else. They spunk millions on medicore shit, and they still expect to breeze the top four.

Fuck them. Fuck the lot of them. The Liverpool pundit mafia over talk them in a way that is in complete variance to their league position, results, general performance and general quality throughout the first team.

It's almost unthinkable for NUFC to be above them in their heads, with their divine right attitude. They are a club in decline, and I hope they get put in their place this season. Starting tonight.

All things considered, I think it would be a travesty if they finished above us this season. Why is is alright for their supporters to expect top four, but according to the pundits, we aren't even allowed to entertain the thought?

Living in the past bastards. Someone needs to tell them the early 90's ended a long time ago.
