Like I said, Keegan agreed to the deal. But I think it was Wise and his team that "spotted" him and brought him to KK's attention. Not exactly hard to "spot" an Argentine international though.

Bassong was quoted in an article that Keegan contacted his agent to get him on trial

Bassong has been a rare positive in another gruelling season for Newcastle. Signed from Metz last summer, the 22-year-old Frenchman has been heralded as a success story for the recruitment department that is led by Dennis Wise, the executive director (football), but Bassong has credited Kevin Keegan, the former Newcastle manager, for his discovery. âI came to Newcastle because my agent knew Kevin Keegan and my agent told him he had me and that I was a good player at Metz,â he said. âKevin had seen me play one or two times for France Under-21 and he asked my agent if I could come for a trial.â
Maybe that's where Simon Bird get's his proof from, a direct quote from the player himself.
Though obviously laughing Lambias says different.

Ah well.
Even so, could have been Wise who pointed him out, and KK who contacted him.
EDIT: Just seen that quote.

George Culkin, The Times.
Can't believe anyone believes anything that comes out of Lambias mouth. Still no accounting for folk.

The team this next season, IF we go down wont look anything like the team we have now, I think maybe 3 will stay the same, Harper, Taylor and Shola, the rest will leave in a mass exodus.
And MO will be gone either way.
