Dennis Wise will leave Newcastle in the summer as part of a massive shake-up which will go ahead even if the club avoid relegation.
The executive director has become frustrated with his role and has been involved in a series of rows over transfers, including that of Peter Lovenkrands, signed on a free in January at Joe Kinnear's insistence.
Kinnear has also hinted he could move out of the managerial hot seat and fill Wise's boots as transfer chief should doctors advise him not to return as first-team boss following his heart surgery.
Kinnear has a check-up on Monday that will determine his fitness to again take the reins.
Wigan's Steve Bruce has also made it known to Newcastle that he is interested in taking charge at St James' Park if Kinnear is moved aside, as revealed by Mirror Sport last month.
Fuck Off Joe do one we dont need a D.O.F.
Managing director Derek Llambias yesterday admitted Newcastle would be forced to rip up their business plan if relegated. But he pledged owner Mike Ashley would not put the club into administration and incur a nine-point penalty if United go down, despite the perilous financial situation they would be in were they to be relegated.
Instead there would be a cull of top-earning players to slash the crippling £73million wage bill, with players deals not subject to relegation clauses that would trigger an immediate reduction in their pay.
