I'll tell you after Stoke away.

If we don't WIN that game - a draw is simply not good enough - so Dumb and Dumbers cautious defensive approach just will not wash that day -I'll resign myself to us going down.

We must accumulate more points than either Stoke or Blackburn, assuming the Smogs don't suddenly start winning for us to stay up, they are the two teams I forsee can possibly save us, if we can get more points than them.

Stoke are an awful team, worse than us, but they have a potent weapon - throw ins and long balls - two things we are shyte at defending against.

They have big strong lads who can win the ball in the air and we must be at our strongest defensively and sharpest up front.

It doesn't look good, but you have to have some belief otherwise what's the point.

I believe we can beat Stoke, Pompey, Smogs and Fulham - 12 points would secure our survival - that's my heart talking.

My head says, what I said about teams in our position last year - they wouldn't catch us last year, because teams down the bottom don't suddenly string 4 or 5 wins together - and for that reason why should I change my thoughts this year, other than my desire for us to do so.

In summary, I think it will take a monumental effort to stay up.

I agree with NUSC for once - we must all come together in support of the team, make St. James' an intimidating noisy ground for teams to visit - who knows we might even scare Chelsea - their record at our ground isn't fantastic over the years.

We must, like we all did in '92 get behind the lads 1000% home and away and at least try and inspire the lazy bastards who have let us down for so long on the pitch.

Where is that performance against Manure eh?

Why can't they produce that each game?

Because they are overpaid prima donnas who don't give a flying fuck.

There's no David Kelly's in this team - no blood and guts has been spilt this season from these lazy bastards has it?

trouble is though LL, last year we had a manager how appeared he'd be around for the next few years.

Now, we've got a manager climbing off his death bed, may never come back, a team of coaches who have no clue on what to do in a match situation, less still what there job prospects are, a director of football who is off, and an owner who wants to dump the club.

Now, if you were a player with a career to think of......would you go balls out into a 50/50 ball?

I know it's depressing like.

I just live in hope more than belief.

Maybe the other teams will fuck up more than us and we will sneak a few results.

Well thats the thing, I can see other teams fucking up, but i can't see where we'll get a point.

I've read many times "Oh we'll beat Pompey and Boro."

On what grounds? We've failed to beat Hull in 4 attempts this season who've barely won in the last 20 league games.

As long as we have games to play and the teams around us have similar games to play, then I remain hopeful.

Beat Stoke or not it will be a battlefield outside the ground afterwards.

Their nutters congregate every match at the back of that stand and the Staffordshire police are shyte.

It's like stepping back in time at that place, despite the shiny new ground - just like that shithole they used to play in.

We need 3 wins minimum out of 8 games, we have only won 6 games all season out of 30 we are down, no way will we stay up. Then again if we got a sneaky lucky win against chelski everything would change but if we stay up it will be remarkable.

The problem you have is that somebody (and that somebody is probably Newcastle) is going to get relegated this season with 39 or 40 points.

I'm with the others who think that form that has shown itself over 30 games is not going to miraculously change for the last 8 games (and take Liverpool and Chelsea aside we're talking about 6 games to avoid relegation.)

I wouldn't say I'm optimistic - more of a realist, or NOT pessimistic.

I read above that we MUST beat Stoke. I wouldn't agree with that either.

We've got Habib Beye back, and Taylor and Bassong will be fit after the Chelsea game, Owen is fit again, Oba is fit again and Guthrie and Nolan are back in the side.

I don't see how, with a pretty much full squad, we can't be looking at picking up at least 7 points from the 3 home games against Pompey, Fulham and Boro and then another point or two on our travels. - Aye, ok, we've thrown stupid points away at SJP all season, but really, we should beat these, and why not?

Not impossible.

if we are allowed to play about 16 players we might win a game, thats the 11 Hughton thinks should play and the rest who we know should play

if not we are fucked

Thing is, Stoke are truely bad, as are Boro, Fulhams away record is appalling, we have already turned Pompey over when they still had all their players, we have got a sack full of points against Spurs home & away for years now, Villa will have nothing at all to play for come final day of the season.

Granted we are shyte, but we can take comfort in that so are Stoke, Hull, Boro, and to an extent Blackburn given their decidedly dodgy run in.

I wont be resigned to relegation until after the Boro game if we are still in the bottom 3.

IF we are in the bottom 3 come the end of may we cant have any complaints as the table never lies 1 win since xmas tells the story of how shite we are.

Agree.

We're shite. But I think we can be slightly less shit than three other teams and avoid the drop.

we need 10 points from Fulham, Stoke, Boro & Pompey. If we dont, then we actually deserve to go down. Those teams (3 home games) are beatable but we are a trully awful side. it will take massive inputs from players that have so far underperformed this season to get those 10 points.

Dont stop believing.
