Smithy off to Leeds then.

Anyone else heard - a Leeds fan I know reckons it is a done deal and he will be made captain next season.

Not sure how true but seem plausable.

I wouldn't mind another big wage earner off the books who we already know is not up to the Premiership.

Interesting one. I'd be tempted to keep him mind, we aren't exactly going to be blessed with bodies next season.

But, his departure may pave the way for the likes of Vukic and whatnot.

Well there is probably only Barton, Smith & Colo left on prtoppa big money.

Smith leaving will likely hurt us the least.

We'd need a replacement, but I'm sure we could find a free transfer of similar ability to sit on the bench for a small portion of Smith's wage.

Barton gave a glimpse of his football ability towards the end

he could be our best player

If he can get himself fully fit and stay out of bother I would agree - the latter is the most unlikely though.

Agree.

Him, Guthrie and Nolan are all good players in the middle.

We can't survive with just the three of them though.

Just looking at some of the transfers made under Ashley, and in particular when Allardyce was here, and for a man who prides himself on "doing so well" using a tight budget, (Allardyce) he doesn't half spend a shitload of wages on old, average players.

I know the wage bill was massive when Allardyce joined, but signing the likes of Cacapa, Viduka, Smith, Barton and Geremi didn't help a lot.

Thick end of £300k per week there.

If you include the NI, we are talking £17.5mil per year in wages on that lot.

Un-Fucking-Believable - No wonder we are fucked.
