That was 8 years ago.....and surely you need to be at a world event, to be the best fans in the world.

RE: French out in the first round

I have, just today, put a bet on with betfair that ALL the group favourites win their groups.

That's France, Argentina, England, Germany, Holland, Italy, Brazil and Spain at just over 40/1.

So I will be cheering for the french (for the first 3 games anyway).

To be fair the English were all saying the same things about Maradona after 86.

RE: French out in the first round

This may sound controversial, but to be quite honest I don't see it as "cheating", it's simply getting past the rules as they stand. If the players involved can get away with it good luck to them - it is not their fault that FIFA and UEFA are so backwards in using technology.

I don't necessarily recall people being up in arms when Owen twice dived in previous World Cups to gain penalties.

The problem with England is that we can be too "clean". In South America they call conning a ref "being smart" or something similar.

There are numerous examples of "cheating" in the English game. What about the number of times defenders hold onto forwards at corners - how often is that a pen? Happens twenty times in a game. Yet it's accepted by pundits and players alike.

If video technology was allowed Henry's goal would have been disallowed within seconds. Rather than twist and whinge after the event, it would make more sense if people got together and petitioned FIFA via the FA.

In the meantime if Newcastle escape relegation next season by another Taylor dive then I for one will be congratulating him.

ps. And in '86 I personally blamed Shilton for being too slow getting out of his goal. He should have been favourite to punch the ball clear not some short arse.

The best doesn't always win.
1996 shows that.
Also france and Ireland both finished second in their groups.

I still fervently hope the French get massacred in every game. I'm off to the boozer tonight to hopefully see Uruguay put 6 on the cunts. cav

Might as well encourage them all to take performing enhancing drugs as well then, if FIFA or UEFA don't catch them - result. I can just see Danny Simpson transformed into a Vin Diesel lookalike, scoring a bullet header from the header from the half way line to grab a vital point in the last match next season Smile
Cheating is cheating bud, and if it's encouraged to take over from skill and talent, then we might as well pack it all in and play draughts.
