Would this have happened if Hughton was still here
I wonder if to some extent, CH going like he did has unsettled some of the players.

In a heartbeat yeah. Ashley would have gone over Hughtons head and snapped their hands off at £30M

Are you saying it was Pardew made MA hold out for an extra £5 million?

Nope, I'm saying Pardew was making him say no full stop. Its only Carroll (well, why we kidding ourselves, its Carroll's agent) that has forced fatties hand this time

Carroll is worse than Ashley in all of this. Jumping ship for big(ger) money.
He doesn't know what he's doing.

No, I dont buy that whole MA conspiracy , its only cos he hates us, thing.
He is an idiot, but in his own terms he has a clear strategy that he sticks to. I think it is likely that he turned down the £35 mill offer: I just cant get the "forcing" Carroll into it suggestion.
I am wondering why Carroll has changed his mind: he would be absolutrly certain that his hometown would turn against him, he knew what he was doing.

I will never believe that anyone has ever stopped Ashley from doing exactly what he wants.
