Martinez

Are we seeing a young manager with genuine integrity in the making??

Turning down Villa to stay on at Wigan is a pretty bold decision. Whealen reckons part of the agreement that he stays on is that the club buy their training facilities (they currently lease them apparently), and upgrade them - Not a big fat bonus or a big fat payrise Eek

Always liked the bloke, he started the rise of Swansea and at Wigan on the face of it he looks like he wants to leave a big of a lasting mark.

Fair play to him

I like him as a person. Loyal, seems a nice guy.
Does anyone else think for a team that has some very good players, that 16th 2 seasons running doesnt deserve half the plaudits he seems to be getting?

Was this his 2nd season? I suppose having to sell the likes of Valencia and Palacios didn't help, and they will always be a selling club in the modern parlance, so trying to build a decent squad is difficult on the 'crowds' they get.

RE: Martinez

Before we start having some sort of Martinez 'love-in' for being oh so dignified and loyal in choosing to stay at Wigan, it could very easily be the case that, having met with Randy Lerner, he is aware of what a fuckin tool the man is and that he has a decent Boss in Whelan. It could also be down to him not being offered a satisfactory package at Villa. It could be many things so let's be wary of praising Martinez all the way back to Wigan.

Let also not forget that he has Wigan playing some fuckin woeful brand of football that only Allardyce would approve of.

RE: Martinez

Are you judging them to play good stuff from your experience of watching them on MOTD or something V ?

I've seen them on MOTD too, as well as having seen them live. On top of that I am pals with a couple of Wigan fans who freely admit they are dogshit.

So, in conclusion, they are dogshit.

Widely acknowledged by most in the game to play good football.
Ive seen them a few times, and be impressed every time.

RE: Martinez

He didn't even talk to Villa.

Wigan have a remit of staying up and that's it, always will. Villa would have offered him a decent wedge for sure.

Whealan gave him a pop at the PL and I would like to think he is repaying the favour and doing his image no harm whatsoever.

Good luck to the bloke I say
