Play Ben Arfa on the right

instead of Obertan, he is simply a better player. I don't buy into the argument that he can't play on the wing, i think he can.

Or move Guti to right wing and Ben Arfa on the left.

Don't think it will happen mind, Pardew seems to love Obertan.

RE: Play Ben Arfa on the right

HBA on the right is conceivable but no matter what Guti should stay on the left imo

especially at home to the 'lesser' teams when perhaps HBA's lack of work rate might not be such a crucial factor.

RE: Play Ben Arfa on the right

He isn't a right winger though. He's an attacking midfielder or a second striker.

It's almost like saying play Ba on the right...

I'd really prefer to play in the hole.

Well is could well give Obertan the kick up the arse that he needs.

I'd still prefer HBA through the middle mind, he will have a lot more scope to do some damage from there...

I believe Obertan will prove to be the next big thing.

I was told that Graham Carr watched him at 16 at Auxerre and they were all talking him up as the next big thing to come out of France. He must have something about him. Carr has watched him for nye on 5 years now so I believe we've got a canny player.

Obertan's mental attitude is the problem imo.One minute he will get involved and do something well, the next he lets play pass him by like he doesn't give a fuck.He needs to get his head right

RE: Play Ben Arfa on the right

All Ober needs to do is a) occasionally run past a player b) get a decent cross in

Both need to be done by getting your head up...someone needs to explain this to him

Obertan has the speed and skill to be a great player for us, I'm just not sure he has the intelligence.

Lauren Blanc has criticised french youth policy which has placed more emphasis on pace than skill

Obertan opitomises what he is talking about, great pace, average skill and intelligence

Milner's crossing was awful, usually always hit the first man. Obertan has the pace that Milner didn't it, he just needs a decent cross

And James Milner had the attitude, work rate and passion that Ober needs to make him complete. I just think that for someone with uber talent its all so easy they dony have to try and seem bored,

Think given the option Milner or Obertan, Id play Milner at the moment. Obertans potential though is unlimited.

RE: Play Ben Arfa on the right

People talk about players being lazy. I don't buy this. Do you really think that a professional football will turn up every week and go, "nah, I can't be arsed".

For me, this is a lazy stereotype pushed out on players who don't run around in circles for 90 minutes. He's not done a great deal to date but Carr, Carver, Stone and Pardew see something in him. For me, this is enough.

The ironic cheers and all that shite that go around when he is subbed must stop. Massively counter productive.

RE: Play Ben Arfa on the right

Have you ever considered that Obertan is a little more astute than we give him credit for and he recognises his own failings and knows theres nothing he can do to rectifiy it.

he is simply not as good as his hype

given that hes had the benefit of the french youth training programme for years followed by the ManU training programme which produced a glut of good and great players

its not as if hes a newcomer to the game

So you have the choice of Milner or Obertan against Swansea tomorrow. Who do you pick?

if Marveaux was fit i think he would be playing
its not as if we have many choices, Ben Arfa isnt a supportive winger so hes not suitable

Teams know hes a weak link Norwich overlapped past Santon with ease as Obertan made a half hearted effort at tracking back

What do people see in Obertan? He does nothing apart from not take his man on and pass the ball back to the right back.

I will be disappointed if he starts ahead of Ben Arfa today.

Here's hoping he scores a hat-trick if he does though.

Marv is a left footer.

You're right Steve, Marveaux is a left footer, that makes him perfect for LW and play Jonas RW.

Of course I don't mean at the minute because he's injured, when he regains fitness, if Obertan hasn't improved then that's what I'd go for.

I don't know if Jonas has ever played right wing in his career. We've certainly never tried it.

I would be intrigued to see it though

We have tried it. His first season here he played mainly on the right for us.

He's a right winger that we stuck on the left.
