A second bid to be made for Mathieu Debuchy

The Journal has learned that United’s summer plans centre around a £20million triple swoop for Debuchy, FC Twente striker Luuk de Jong and Ajax’s versatile midfielder Vurnon Anita.

And, despite having initial bids turned down for all three players, they still hope to recruit the trio. United hope to take a significant step towards signing Debuchy by the end of this week.

We would be crazy not to sign a first 11 standard centre half. Saylor gets a long term injury every single season - We cant be caught short again.

CB should be our main priority, we'd be fools not to sign one.

Perch, Tiote, Cabaye, Gosling, Jonas & Abeid are all capable of sitting in front of the back 4 and doing a decent enough job. Well Abeid is simply hearsay but he has been bulled up an awful lot by the club and by fans that have seen him on occasion.

The club know we need a centre half, in fact Pardew himself said we had one lined up and that was ages ago - We either already have one done, or a deal has fallen through!

I know but like what Sal says we need a centre back over any def midfielder at the mo cause we got a few players who can do the same job if called into the 1st team.

Surely Anita is being linked to replace Tiote and he will fund the 3 signings?

hehehe.

I actually think Tiote will stay. I was convinced he was off but over the last month or so I have changed my tune.

In Ashley we trust Wink

RE: A second bid to be made for Mathieu Debuchy

I agree that a CB should be top of the wanted list - my feeling is that the club put all their eggs in the Douglas basket and the shilly-shallying by the player and his agent have scuppered the deal. Taylor always picks up injuries and we will never progress with Williamson at CB for long spells.Vertonghen is too expensive and probably wants London anyway so its difficult to see who else fits the bill. If Curtis Good is signed he looks like being an asset for the future, but at 19 probably needs a season or so to develop.

Anita would be an asset if we were to lose Tiote or he was away in the ACN as well as good cover at LB, but the one that looks most likely to appear is Debuchy...the club seem to be keen to do a deal and the player seems keen to come because of his links with Cabaye..I am far less sure about de Jong - latest reports have him joining Borussia Moenchengladbach and whilst I could understand him going to Bayern, this latest story seems to show that he isn't really keen to come to NUFC ..Borussia are a decent side, but not as big a club as Newcastle so maybe the player doesn't fancy English football.

All we can do is wait and see - the club will undoubtedly back out of deals which it thinks are too expensive, but they also retain the ability to surprise - none of us expected to see Cisse sign in Jan window, or that he would be such a success so we have to hope they can pull more rabbits out of the hat.
