Writing in his programme notes ahead of this afternoon's derby with Middlesbrough, Llambias said: "We did receive several bids that met the £100m asking price but, despite giving all parties involved our full support in their attempts to push the sale through, only two of those parties completed the due diligence process and reached the sale purchase agreement stage.
"Once those documents were in place, the necessary funding required to complete the sale of the club never actually materialised. So while there were bids on the table, when it came to the crunch none of the bidders actually came up with the agreed funds

mmmm yeah sure Derek my old son, they would waste their time meeting the price and then not having the funds to put the sale through
nothing like a bit of contradiction in the same quote

To be slightly fair, a lot of business is done "on a promise" from financial backers that withdraw at the last minute. I was involved with the redevelopment of Donington Park for the F1 next year and the gobshite who owned the place insisted the money was there, and so about a million quid's worth of work was done "on a promise", including ripping up the track and destroying Donington's revenue source, only for the owner's backers to fail to materialise and the whole project to go tits up, leaving him a million quid out of pocket and with no means of making his money back.
Risky business, business.
