RE: Used to Love this Frenchman

Yeah they were goal of season contenders.

Was great at Highbury when we went top.

Sochaux is just a drunken blur.

All I remember about that night is free beer in one of the bars and the boozer over from the station over ran with Mags singing Craig Craig Bellamy for what seemed like half an hour non stop Wink

SBR built a class front 6, if only he'd signed two quality centre halves we'd have won league.

Dead right Pablo - overrated by a long way. His work rate made Ben Arfa look like a trier and for every goal he scored there were at least 10 free kicks blasted into row Z.

Bollocks

Not bollocks. My opinion.

Robert scored and created significantly more goals than Ginola ever did.

Goals win games it's very simple really.

He wasnt a defensive player and SBR knew that and accepted that, as his contribution in the attacking half was what mattered.

The number of games he single handedly changed was worth a lot more points than Ginola ever gave us.

And if we are comparing the two, Ginola tracked back just as little, so just comparing the two players I'd have Robert in my team any day of the week over Ginola.

One of my favourite players simply because he's given me some great memories. We haven't won anything, so that's the next best thing.

Fair enough LL you're entitled to be wrong as much as anyone else Big Grin

Its far too simplistic to say goals win games and Robert scored more goals. Ginola was much more threatening from open play in my opinion.

I think my thoughts on Robert are coloured by the fact that I thought he was going to be brilliant. I remember his debut when he knocked the ball past the full back and whipped a ball in and thinking 'this blokes going to be good'. Unfortunately I dont think he did it again

My overriding memory of him after that was facing up a defender, knocking the ball against his legs and either losing possession or losing momentum by getting a throw in off said defenders legs.

As MD says, the vast majority of his free kicks ended up in the crowd.

I honestly cant remember the last toon player to split opinion as much as this bloke

Used to Love this Frenchman

One of my all time favourite players. Players like him is why I watch football. Brilliant.

Apart from his amazing goals (check out the overhead backheel), I'll never forget his cross for Patrick Kluivert to score against Chelsea in the FA Cup. Never forget that game. Snow all over and Shearer crocking one of theirs to reduce them to 10 men. Jose didn't win em all.
