Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to launch a fresh bid for Newcastle United's Yohan Cabaye in the January transfer window.

The Gunners and the Toon club fell out in the summer when the Londoners made a £10 million bid for the French midfielder.

Cabaye however remains unsettled and Wenger knows that his desire for Champions League football could be a big factor in his thinking.

Despite his midfield riches, Wenger sees him as the ideal player to sit in front of the Gunners defence.

Cabaye's box-to-box style could prove a huge asset to the team and a bid of around £15m could get the player out.

Manchester United boss David Moyes may also show his hand for a player who scored 12 goals out of midfield last season and has so far managed a couple this term.

But the Gunners will be big favourites to land a player who appeared keen to join the club in the summer.

A source told SportsDirect News exclusively: "He remains exactly what Arsene needs. If he gets him plus striker Karim Benzema, Arsenal will be totally formidable."

"Remy yesterday became the latest Newcastle player to be touted for a move away from the club by the Sports Direct News website. It reported that Arsenal were the latest Premier League club to show an interest in the player.

That the website belongs to Newcastle owner Mike Ashley’s company has not been lost on disgruntled Magpies supporters."
