RE: True Faith

Nothing new in there, but the last paragraph which mentions the lost revenue from relegations, that's the bit I don't understand with Ashley.

1. Relegation is a costly failure for him
2. Invest in the team and not only do you avoid that, but greater riches are available higher up the table.

The bloke is a buffoon when it comes to running a football club, but until someone waves around £400 million under his nose he's going nowhere.

"It’s a very personal thing but I really don’t think I could continue to click through the turnstile at SJP to bear witness to a Zombie club going through the motions when the owner is simply interested in its increasing value (on the back of improving TV deals) whilst sucking all of the joy out of the place"

That was a good read. Slightly catastrophic in places but it's a fair reflection of the general view.

I think you don't realise how little season ticket money means to him.

An empty ground wouldn't bother him.

RE: True Faith

An excerpt from an article in 2016 about it

"Big English football clubs no longer need their supporters' money to pay their players' wages. They certainly don't need as much of it, if any at all.

The finances driving our clubs onwards and upwards comes from sponsorship, commerce and, above all, TV companies who seem happy to invest so very much of their viewers' subscription and licence fees into this product."

Also read this year NUFC are the fastest growing club in China - whatever that means!

But what it probably would mean long term is hundreds of thousands, if not millions of 'members' TV subscribers, merchandise customers would provide more than enough to make up for say a halving of season ticket holders.

Eventually PL clubs will generate more from 'remote' fans than they do from match going fans, it's logical.

We don't matter Mac, whether you like it or not, that's is the reality.

Big Mike really couldn't give a fuck, I resigned myself to that long ago.

I still want to support my team though and enjoy going, despite us not being as good or competitive as I would like, but then again, apart from approx 10 years, that has always been the case in my lifetime.

NUFC rarely gets close to its potential and hasn't done for decades, long before our latest owner.

So you're not even supporting the club by attending ??

RE: True Faith

That depends on how you define "supporting", if you mean financially, then no, not really.

I doubt my £500 or so covers much overhead does it?

Supporting in the real sense then yes of course.

You often raise the point when talking about attracting new owners that we have 52,000 fans and could attract thousands more and yet you now say that attendance is insignificant in financial terms....which one is it?

Why are the likes of Chelsea, Everton and Spurs looking to expand if the money is insignificant?

He would be the only man is history to do it, I can assure you Sky Sports would crucify him, which is the last thing Ashley would want..

It's just a point, not an over riding one but an example of the level of support we command.

Perhaps you are answering the puzzle though, why haven't we been sold yet?

The fans are insignificant and owners may have other objectives when buying a club, such as our unfortunate luck to have one trying to grow his Sports Shop empire.

Sponsorship would drop, televised games would drop and merchandise sales would drop

I reckon that 400 million pound asking price would drop fairly sharpish

Well we've had two relegations under him so far and it hasn't changed the asking price.

He would care about the bad press from Sky Sports, after all his company is a sports related retail outlet...

He's had bad press for a long while now and doesn't seem too fussed.

He's given a couple of interviews and played the poor old me card.

He is hardly flapping is he?

He still has that collection of white George over sized school shirts filled into his wardrobe for such appearances. Wink

RE: True Faith

We all know how this story ends, history is repeating itself. He knows that many supporters will never walk away from the club, it is a massive part of their lives. The Sky interview was his way of muddying the waters, insinuating we are a nothing club, who cannot even generate enough cash to compete for mid table. Sky were a fucking disgrace for showing that interview, its was conducted by the goofy cunt David Craig who is represented by none other than Keith Bishop, Ashley's PR man. At the end of the interview Ashley said "cheers Craigy" A total pisstake.

Ashley, like Philip Green, is a fucking leech. He is a proven liar.

I have said it before and not followed through, but I will say it again - If this turns out the same way as the KK debacle I am giving up on my ST.

I cannot personally be arsed to be part of a zombie nation. It sort of is a case of 'If Rafa goes, I go' but I dont mean that in its literal sense. Rafa walking is a lot more than just losing a top manager, it is basically hope walking out of the door and frankly if a football club is stripped of its hope then there isnt much left to support.

Each to their own as to how they choose to be a fan, be a supporter, a follower, whatever hat you want to put on it, but for me personally I would not be able to justify putting all of my passion into something that has no hope. I dont expect to win anything, but if we are not even trying to bring moments of magic to SJP then I would essentially be turning up to cheer on a dead horse.
