Just shows what a flawed system they have been using

Stick with players who are clearly struggling on the big day just cos they can get about the pitch when no fuckers watching

This is it with all these GPS trackers and whatnot. I think there's far too much analysis of one thing or another.

Mind I heard one of the things Keegan didn't like about Mickey Quinn was his training sessions consisted of him trying shots at different angles around the 18 yard box. Regardless of how lethal a finisher he was (and it seemed that any ball that reached him was destined for the back of the net) his work rate elsewhere caused major concerns so he got rid.

But if Mitrovic wasn't even doing it when no fucker was watching, what gives him the right to expect to play at the weekend ?

He had no right at all under a flawed system

Surely if you set criteria for selection you would expect to see results on the

The fact that Mitrovic has a better PL record than Joselu and his ability to do well for his country when needed would have at least raised a few eyebrows over their selection policy

The stats that you put up the other day regarding goals per shots tell their own story as to how training translates to matchday

There was no reason to leave Mitro out for training/fitness reasons.

It was just Rafa’s choice not to play him for whatever reason.

When it comes to Rafa's treatment of Mitro, I've been just as confused as you and have been fairly vocal about it too. However, this new information goes some way into explaining Rafa's methodology. If it had been made plainly clear to the players at the outset of Benitez's tenure that the players who perform best during the weeks training will be the ones who play at the weekend, then Mitro's constant non-inclusion may go some way to highlighting his attitude/endeavour during the training sessions.

If he wasn't even trying or motivated or scoring goals in training, then that would begin to explain why Gayle/Joselu were starting during matches. His historic scoring record in the Prem isn't even that good and I've never been a fan of picking players based on their reputation or history.

It just so happens that both Gayle and Joselu have been fucking woeful this term but if Mitro has been even worse than that during the week then I can kind of understand Rafa's thinking. I don't totally agree and see the flaws but I do think that this new info mitigates the situation somewhat.

All managers make examples of players. Keegan did it with Quinn and Cole. Dog leash Ginola. Robson with Big Dunc.

Rafa even did it with Fowler at Liverpool.

While I obviously fully appreciate Rafa is indeed a world class manager, I just dont think methods used with squads of far more depth and quality are guaranteed to work with squads like ours

It was more a case of beggars cant be choosers with our shite alternatives

I still maintain that Benitez refusal to sell him to another PL club indicates he was worried that he could do a job

Its all meaningless now but as Ive said before - I dont think Rafa has done Joselu any favours either by persisting with him while hes been struggling. His confidence has got to be rock bottom, especially after that penalty miss. But never mind, just so long as he has a good week in training he could well keep Slimani out

There are just so many factors that we don't know about.

What I do know is given a choice I'd rather have Shola than any of our current strikers.

Fulham are a good side, hopefully Mitro can be a big part in them being promoted.

He may still have a role to play with NUFC, if we can improve the team generally and not play backs-to-the-wall football all season long then he may be better suited to Rafa.

Fulham staggered me last season when they fell away, they absolutely tore us a new one up here, and that kid Seesgnon is a star in the making.
