"In overlooking existing governance and regulation, as well as the hugely positive impact Newcastle United and other professional clubs have in their communities, Mr Corbyn has demonstrated a surprising lack of knowledge about our national game.

"We feel, therefore, it is important to address his damaging and misinformed opinions in the interests of the club and its supporters.

"Financially, other than sums provided to the club on a short-term, interest-free basis and repaid to him as intended, we would like to make it clear that Mike Ashley has not taken a penny out of Newcastle United in interest, salary or dividend, as is customary at many clubs.

"As stated on numerous occasions before, every penny Newcastle United has will continue to be available to it.

"In this financial year, the club will use an overdraft facility to manage its cash-flow following a significant spend on talent in the summer. As a well-run, responsible club, that amount will be repaid in full and on time and our other regulatory obligations will be met.

"We will not apologise for being financially sustainable, but we will push the boundaries of our budgets as far as possible to maximise the impact on the team."

"Often, Newcastle United Foundation's projects fill in significant gaps that the public sector sadly cannot stretch to, particularly at a time when government cuts are so prevalent.

"We would like to invite Mr Corbyn to visit one of these initiatives to experience at first hand the incredible work that is being undertaken by the Foundation in our local community every day."

The club makes Corbyn and that other MP appear the fools they are. They should quit while they are miles behind.

So you don't agree that Mike Ashley puts his business interests ahead of everything else, marginalises fans and rips them off. ?

Yes business is first. The fans marginalise him with their chants. Most clubs are ripping fans off with ticket prices. The Halls and Shepherd were bigger rip offs.

The main point is that Labour should acknowledge the charity work the club does.

We are now able to outspend other Premier league teams and when all players are fit will show our true quality. I'm confident we will spend big again in January.

Time will tell like every season for the last god knows how many years. I think we will be nearer the bottom than the top but we may well survive. That is the same for most teams in the league bar the top 6/7 I include Leicester in that group this year not Everton maybe Wolves! Definitely not us haha!

Your knowledge of NUFC is embarrassingly poor, SJH and shepherd were in truth the only two owners/chairman we've ever had who truly wanted to win us something.... Mike Ashley has never and will never be interested in us winning anything.

RE: blah blah

from The Mag

this is what Ashely takes from the club

Advertising –

Every set of accounts from the year Ashley bought the club right up to the most recent (June 2018) stated no income for the advertising provided. There has been a recent promise on the record that an agreement has been made for future advertising to be paid (as there previously was in 2015) and Sports Direct have said they will eventually be paying £2m annually.

Disregarding the fact that this must represent good value for Ashley’s shop and more could therefore likely be generated from other advertisers, £2m a year over 11 years (2007-2018) would represent a £22m loss to NUFC and saving for Ashley’s store.

Property sale –

Strawberry Place was sold to Ashley for £6m (without a public bidding process to maximise the return for the club). Subsequently he sold the land for £9m. A £3m private profit for the owner that cut the club out.

Merchandise –

Since 2013 accounts have reported sales to Newcastle United from Ashley’s shop totalling £9.8m, that’s an average of £1.6m annually that the club pay Ashley’s shop. The club has stated that “The only money paid by the Club to Sports Direct is for the stock (at cost price), plus a handling fee”. Cost price plus a handling could also be described as at a profit.

Does Ashley’s shop have any other customer that pays them more than £1.6m annually, or does this make Newcastle United their biggest individual client?

That’s just shy of a £35m return Ashley and his store have extracted from his owning Newcastle United without interest, salary or dividends.

Which brings me to one more complaint about Newcastle’s response to Corbyn. To claim the Labour leader is “overlooking existing governance and regulation” so soon after the demise of Bury is like a sick joke. The current regulation is poor and there is little transparency for institutions of such cultural importance.

Ashley exploits the assets at Newcastle on behalf of his shops and refuses to exploit it’s assets for the good of the club itself. He paints himself as the most responsible of owners, arguing that others profit from interest, salaries and dividends that harm clubs, that he doesn’t think an owner should take.

If it were true, Ashley would not have reacted so angrily to Corbyn’s speech. If it were true he would welcome regulation that would put a sensibly run Newcastle United on a more level playing field with other clubs that overextend themselves. He’d also be genuinely interested in how a Corbyn government would help him transfer shareholdings of a club he’s supposedly been trying to sell for a decade into the hands of supporters, freeing him from what he would have you believe has been an albatross around his neck.

The truth is, he is one of the very worst owners in the league, using and abusing a club he cares nothing about for personal gain.

He would suffer more than many if sensible measures were brought in to limit his omnipotence at Newcastle and shine a light on the details of those areas he’s been able to exploit.

An owner who truly wants to win something isn't necessarily a good one. Did Ellis Short truly want to win something with Sunderland? We know where they ended up.

Sir John, Douglas, Cameron Hall,Freddy Shepherd and Shepherd Offshore took £45 mil in total out of the club in salaries and dividends.

Hall sold to Ashley to cash in and knew Ashley had Sports Direct as his main priorty. He didn't give a toss about the club as long as he got his £££s.

We are stuck with Ashley whether people like it or not, but if we'd bought a decent player for the money we spend on Almiron, we'd be a much better team, but the point was big money was spent. It was spent again with Almiron and Maximin. Now that Bruce has finally sussed a decent set of tactics and if key players like Maximin get fit, we will have a decent premiership team and be able to invest a decent wedge every transfer window like we have done in the last 2.

No - big money wasn't spent

Average money was spent and Almiron and Joelinton are the perfect examples of what average money gets you in terms of forwards

I get the feeling you are starting to believe your own shite

Who are we selling this time?

Watch the new Ashley out video for facts about the fat man. He's robbed the club every year with no Advertising revenue ,sold land to family who never pay for it,

Yes but they also tried to make the club reasonably successful, 2 premiership runners up, two fa cup finals, champions league football etc......mike ashley is sucking money out of the club left, right and centre and considers a successful season to be a 17th place finish. Rolleyes

Anyways @ Willo, this Ashley happy to be finishing 17th is utter nonsense. We spent a decent amount in the summer and likely to spend again in January. Last season finished well above 17th and likely to again this season now that Bruce has tactics sorted and injuries easing.

Mac

the reality is Ashley couldnt give a shit where we finish

just as long as the club gets its premier league revenue because all he sees is the bottom line

our impact on his stores is becoming less as the protests and general adverse publicity. couple that with his decision to but House of Fraser is beginning to show him as a poor judge of the modern retail business

As for the club 'm sure its taking less and less of his time and so long as our finshing place isnt in Europe or relegation. the grey, mediocre area in between is perfect for him

Bumraider - Big Grin Not sure why that tickled me so much.

We have never spent big, certainly not when considering the player sales that we have managed to screw out of clubs. While we all have holes in our arses, Perez & Mitrovic combined are not worth anywhere even close to £60m+

£40m on Joelinton alone is big money, mind.
