This is where Mike gets it wrong.

There are many (most) areas, for sure.

But talking about January transfers, in January, is fucking farcical.

You complete the business, in January; not hold discussions then.

Same in the summer - get the players in (and out) BEFORE pre-season, not during. That way the players have time to bed in and get up to speed.

He certainly does. But this is so fundamental to the basis of the running of the club. His club.

This is where Mike gets it wrong.

Even in business, the better you perform, the more money you make.

Again, it's a fundamental error.

RE: This is where Mike gets it wrong.

Football is so awash with cash that you don’t have to be good at it to make shit loads of money.

Just have to be marginally better than complete shite.

When you look it at like that, Mike’s got it spot on.

This is where Mike gets it wrong.

I think if he'd ploughed a mere 10m - 20m a season onto what he had incoming, he'd be raking it in from higher finishes, bigger sales.....stadium full with people who actually paid for their ticket (also this is only a small income in the grand scheme of things).

But he didn't. So he's lost out. As well as the rest of us.

10m - 20m buys a good player, if you have the right manager. One good player per season, for over a decade, would have made a huge difference. No relegation. Higher finishes.

RE: This is where Mike gets it wrong.

hes been "managing our expectations to be shite " for so long many have now given up

thats how he sees the club, its merely an advertising platform and the players fans and stadia is simply a necessary cost he aims to get to a minimal level

ambition isnt a word he has in his vocabulary

This is where Mike gets it wrong.

But, to advertise successfully, you need to be seen to have a winning product.

He doesn't.

I figure it revolves around who he (eventually) sells it to. He's perhaps aiming to double his money - therefore, as well as creaming in some funding from transfers etc etc etc; he also effectively gets 10% interest, per year.

Yes but you get a better price at the end of the window as they are more desparate to sell.

Yes TR, this is a very valid point. But my point being, deals should be already done before the window even starts. Once you are in the window, it's all bollocks.

January transfer dealings should be concluded, latest, mid-December. Summer dealing should be concluded, end of June.

The opposite is also true.

A side like ourselves, in danger of being dragged into a relegation battle (if you're optimistic enough to think we aren't already in one...) can become desperate to buy, and the seller knows this, so can hold on for the higher fee.

We either pay what they demand or go elsewhere for a cheaper, inferior option.

This is where Mike gets it wrong.

Ashley met with Penfold and Bruce, must have been a short meeting, he was at Sports Direct Shirebrook,by 2pm..

Just enough time to empty his pockets of a bit of cash,, saying ' see what you can get for this' ...

richy, if the deals are done early enough, you negate what you speak of.

As soon as January is done, we should be looking to tie up deals for the summer.

If you were on mastermind would your specialist subject be "stating the obvious "

This is where Mike gets it wrong.

If you were on mastermind, your special subject was 'being dull as dishwater and adding nothing'.

But that, would never happen.

If it's so obvious, why isn't numb-nuts doing it? He's supposed to be business savvy. He's certainly not as far as the club is concerned.

RE: This is where Mike gets it wrong.

Where we are and are likely to remain is in the position of picking up the scraps after the top teams buy the crem de la crem near the end of the window.

Injuries to Gayle and Ki haven't helped but may not have made much difference anyways.

In the summer at least Ki will be off the books and Gayle sold or we have him for another season. Preference to be sold.

Odds on nowt happening in or out but Gayle should get a few more games in before the season is done. Hopefully Maximin also.

The joys of supporting NUFC. Roll on Chelsea.

Eh? I was simply disagreeing with ToonRaiders post that deals are cheaper at the end of window due to desperate sellers. More often than not its the buyer that is desperate.

This is where Mike gets it wrong.

Your point was a fair one, and within what the post is about.

That's why the best clubs get the deals done early more often than not. You can get robbed within the transfer window, especially near the end.

Fatty robbed Liverpool of 35m for a start, a perfect example.

I come back to my point, why are fatty and bus-heed discussing January transfer decisions now.......more than half-way through the month.
