Just look forward to the summer

can hardly control my fucking excitement Rolleyes

"Steve Bruce believes Newcastle United’s cautious stance on January business will pay dividends ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Bruce and his staff opted against bringing in a new centre-forward in the winter window despite being offered Crystal Palace’s Cenk Tosun and then missing out on Olivier Giroud of Chelsea who remained at Stamford Bridge.

Newcastle were only ever prepared to offer Giroud a short-term deal but the Frenchman stayed in the capital after the Blues were also hit by issues in the transfer market when it come to signing a frontman.

Perhaps the desperation of all clubs was summed up by Bruce’s old club Manchester United signing journeyman Odion Ighalo on loan from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua.

Bruce has previously stated that none of the players made available to clubs were better than Dwight Gayle, and so the Toon boss stuck with three loanees in other positions in Danny Rose from Tottenham Hotspur, Schalke 04’s Nabil Bentaleb and Inter Milan’s Valentino Lazaro.

It is believed that a host of offensive players from Spain, France and Italy told their agents they would wait until the end of the season before committing to a move to England.

When asked about the failed striker search at the start of 2020, Bruce told the Chronicle: “In January everybody was clambering for a striker.

“And we were the same.

“It was: ‘Can we find somebody for the top end of the pitch?’

“We could not get it (the right quality).”

Although, Bruce admits that Newcastle were offered a host of players who were just desperate for any type of move in January.

It was a road he refused to go down, and given Newcastle have wasted signing on fees in recent January windows on players like Islam Slimani and Antonio Barreca, Bruce feels it could be wise to keep his powder dry.

He added: “Of course we could have got a body in but it doesn’t improve you.

“We have that little bit of time now and get comfortable and look forward to the summer and try to get the right things.”

What??!!.....he really means mike actually had wasted so much money on a donkey last summer that he refused to sanction the acquisition of a proper goal scorer a few months later, facking mug!

Again, a bit harsh on Maximin.

I'm sure you'll agree though that Ashley ok'd the signing of a top player in Maximin. Does this not encourage you that we are now signing good players now and improving the quality of the squad? (Almiron, Maximin)?

Cabeye, Remi, Ba, Cisse, Collocini, Ben Arfa etc etc.....

All good players - not one of them bought or used to progress Newcastle United

But yet I know toonraider fully understands this

As in Joe has been very poor so far, so being twice as good as that isn't saying much.

All those players have helped win important games. Other reasons, ie. Other players being poor or injured or bad managers were the issue.

Getting rid of Gayle and Muto with a decent striker would improve us massivly.

he is stilll buying young players to sell on for a profit, add perez to mcreerys list, signed for a few millions sold five years later for £30m....we are still simply a stepping stone for these players who as they develop want to move on to win trophies and play champions league football elsewhere....if mike ashley had any ambition to push the club forward he would want to keep them here and compete for a place in the top 4, but as everyone accepts by now (except you obviously) he wants nothing of the sort.

It’s been like that for years we all know he gambles every season hoping we stay in the top flight. It’s backfired twice but he’s always invested enough to ensure a quick return to the so-called promised land. His luck will run out one day then we will be fucked.

RE: Just look forward to the summer

He buys young players as they are more valuable to the squad. If they are sold, the money can be reinvested unlike a player in his thirties.

There are only 2 or 3 clubs that don't need to worry about their best players being poached (Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG). Even Man United couldn't hold on to their best players so to give it that Ashley could is an absolute pile.

If we continue to become a stable Premier league team which we are (touch wood) as we have been investing in players like Almiron and Maximin, then we will make it a little more harder for our players to be poached, although there will always be the threat, like any club.

Having to worry about players being poached by top clubs is a sign we are on the right track, something Sunderland fans need not worry about at the moment haha.

Mike Ashley bought the club for three reasons, A) to plug shitedirect worldwide, B) to pocket the tv revenue, C) to sign young players to sell on at a profit.

Oh, and his only ambition for the club is to finish 17th every season....only my opinion, please yourself.

RE: Just look forward to the summer

Are you seriously saying an owner would spend £40mil on 1 player to finish 17th? He spends what money is available on decent players / players with potential, who are available at a decent price. He could have easily sold Sean Longstaff last summer, but didn't.

Is there not a corellation with the club's bank balance and how much is spent on players?

What is the problem with a businessman promoting his business exactly? Would you not give up the stadium name for a top striker?

Boro have an owner who loves his club. Do you envy them at the moment in the Championship?

RE: Just look forward to the summer

The players bought of quality don't want to stay as there are better clubs. It's like any kind of employment. A bigger company offering more money. Why would football be any different?

Gibson may not be a billionaire, but the point is he could put more money in if he wanted to and having an owner who is a genuine supporter doesn't guarantee success.

I'll give you a bit more time to try answer the questions or is the lack of answers an acceptance you admit you were wrong?

i basically washed my hands of you in post #13, but then you become even more ridiculous by comparing steve gibson (a man who has pumped millions of pounds of his own money into his club, won the league cup and taken them to three more cup finals) to mike ashley (a man who for the last 13 years has shown no ambitiion whatsoever, sucked millions of pounds out of the club and dragged the fans thru the shite)....as has been suggested on here a few times you do come across as a mackem wind-up, either that or you're a true newcastle fan with severe learning difficulties.

The club was hardly flowing wih money when he took over or in good shape.

You couldn't answer my questions because you knew you were proved wrong.

He managed to get the club back to the Premier league better than any other owner (yes, a lot of it was down to him to get us there in the first place).

They won a tin pot cup and getting to a final means nowt if you don't win it. Yes he's put millions in but for the amount put in, he hasn't got much to show for it.

We are now a decent Premier league team who can pay £20mils and £40mils on players and have done so recently and likely to continue.

yes but only by using funds raised by selling other players.......i've tried to explain what's really happening at the club but unfortunately you refuse to take it in, after 13 years of total shite you still insist on putting mike ashley on a pedestal, the frightening thing is there's thousands of fans like you. Just look forward to the summer

"only by using funds raised by selling other players" = Totally made up.

Last summer, bringing in Joelinton, Maxi, Rose, Lazaro cost £60mil. Selling Perez and Joselu brought in £32mil, so that's a NET SPEND of £28mil.

Where do I put him on a pedestal exactly? I've stated time and time again that he's made many, many errors. I've just pointed out a few facts instead of making up shit for an agenda.

you're doing it again!!, remember he was hoping to reduce the net spend by offloading gayle and muto in january but unfortunately there were no takers, but rest assured he will recover the shortfall in the summer. Wink

have you conveniently forgotten about this? yes it was a few years ago but sums up how fatty rolls, and very little will ever change, he will ALWAYS flog our best players to get his money back.

Yes, but there are other factors which you are either too stupid to notice or deliberately omit. Money lost due to relegation has an impact and players not wanting to play in the Championship will obvioulsy cause a net profit. You're not going to pay more for players in the Championship.

If we keep staying in the Premier League, our net spend will increase on average, especially as there is more money in the top league now.

I notice you have your club in the list at number 9. Well done! How are they getting on? Tongue
