Martins welcomes wolfsburg link

Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins has revealed he would be interested in securing a move to Wolfsburg.

The reigning Bundesliga champions have been looking to bolster their attacking options all summer, feeling they rely too heavily on first-choice pairing Grafite and Edin Dzeko.

Their efforts have so far been in vain, with Brazilian frontman Nilmar the latest to spurn their advances in favour of a switch to Villarreal.

Nigeria international Martins has now fallen under their radar, with the Newcastle ace keen to find a route out of St James' Park following the club's relegation to the Championship.

He is open to the idea of such a move, believing the German top-flight is now one of the most competitive in Europe.

The Bundesliga is on the up and could soon become one of the best in the world, that's why I am keen on joining a side that has recently become champions of that division," Martins said in Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung.

"I am hoping this transfer is going to be pushed through real soon."

Cant say I wont be to unhappy if he goes. Sadly, A scorer of great goals, and not a great goalscorer.

Tbh, that's what we needed in a team with such a shite midfield, a player who could create things himself. And did on the odd occasion - against Boro, Arsenal...didn't help in the end like...but his and Owen's goals in such a shite team were almost enough to keep us up.

Having said that, if he was a great goalscorer, he would have probably finished one of those chances at Villa.

Whether folks would want him to stay is a nul point anyway. TThe bloke is on £70k(?) per week and we just cant sustain it.

Hopefully he will get a decent enough move because although I dont rate him that highly as a player, his craziness made him worth a watch and he seems a decent chap and I reckon he does genuinly have an affection for NUFC.

Hopefully he will go and we wont have to subsidise his wages, cant see it mind, I reckon by the time we have gotten rid of the high earners, we will probs be doling out £80k a week for fuck all.

I do like Martins you know. He's not a mercenary, seems like a nice bloke and he cares. He'[s also hillarious. Total headcase. Something of a cult hero for me.

We wouldn't necessarily get promotion if he stays, and if he goes, it doesn't mean we can't get promotion.

However, I think any talk of promotion is just daft.

THe problem with Martins is he will hit a stunner from 30 yards and miss a sitter from 5. He is a bit raw yet but I think he could become a class player. He is still only 24 I think. Sadly that will not happen at Newcastle.

I`ll not lose any sleep over him going. In the final run in he vollied over at White Hart Lane from 3 yards, vollied over against Pompey from 4 yards and vollied over at Villa Park from 8 yards. Like you say, top right hand corner from 30 yards but he couldn`t hit Ashleys Arse from 3! He`s nowhere near good enough, just like the rest of them.

Anyway there is a transfer embargo apparently so no players coming in or leaving before any takeover, if you believe a takeover is even in the offing.

So MA will have to pay them Premier wages in the Championship, seems he his happy to do this as no-one who is under contract he left yet have they.

Why move to a new club on less wages than your getting now. only a proper player who wants to win things in football would leave on less wages hence none of our lot will be leaving.
